What are the rules for importing a car from China into Kazakhstan?
  • Age limit: Used vehicles up to 10 years old; minimum Euro 4 emission standard. (From 2025, pre-Euro 4 used cars are banned.)
  • Import duty & taxes: EAEU common tariff. VAT 16% (2026). Used-car duty scales with age and engine size — about 20% + VAT for under 5 years, higher per-cc rates for older. Electric vehicles: duty-free under an annual EAEU quota (the 2025 quota was exhausted; 2026 standard rates apply).

Overland and rail shipments via Khorgos typically take about 15–25 days to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, longer onward to Turkmenistan. Transit times vary with border clearance and season, so we confirm the current schedule for your specific route and port before you book.
Can I import a right-hand-drive car into Central Asia?
No. All five Central Asian countries require left-hand-drive vehicles, and Turkmenistan additionally restricts certain vehicle colours. Sourcing a left-hand-drive specification from the factory is far cheaper than trying to convert a right-hand-drive car later, so we confirm the steering configuration before you order.
